Conquering Burnout - Recognizing the Signs and Charting a Path to Wellness

At Thrive Aesthetics + Wellness, we understand burnout on a deeply personal level. Our owner, Kristin, has faced this struggle herself, and we know all too well the overwhelming feeling of drowning that can come with untreated burnout.
Burnout is a state of utter mental exhaustion that involves a sense of reduced accomplishment and loss of personal identity. It's so prevalent in today's fast-paced society that it has earned a place in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-VI). But what does burnout look like, and how can you recognize if you're experiencing it?
Common symptoms of burnout can include:
  • Loss of self-care and sense of self-identity
  • Behaving cynically, being overly sarcastic, and feeling easily annoyed
  • Disconnecting from friends, family, and the things that you usually value
  • Feeling depressed, discouraged, or under-stimulated
  • Chronic fatigue and adrenal stress, poor sleep, and more migraines
These symptoms often progress as the condition goes untreated, making it increasingly difficult to break free from this cycle. Burnout can occur in professional settings due to intense work pressures, but it can also arise from family demands, social pressures, or any situation where you feel overwhelmed and under-resourced.

It's crucial to reach out for support when you need it - whether that's from your employer, a mental health professional, or a trusted individual in your life. You're not alone, and there are resources available to help:
